Missing from the photo were three other councillors, Jack Murray, Albert Doherty and Nicholas Crossan but they too have pledged their support for the efforts.

Inishowen county councillors have joined forces this week to urge members of the public to get behind the annual Spring Clean Up campaign.

There is an ongoing litter problem in parks, roadsides and other green spaces across the peninsula.

That is why councillors are urging  ordinary citizens to re-discover 'civic pride' and take up the challenge of helping to keep their valuable green resources clean in order to protect an increasingly threatened wildlife and to encourage greater use of woods and parklands by schools and local communities.

The campaign is to be centred around a massive effort on Saturday April 11 but you can ‘do your bit’ anytime.

Local litter warden Pearse McCrory said the effort and enthusiasm shown in the past proved local people have a pride in their areas. Communities and organisations were determined to keep their corner of the county litter free.

“We will be able to supply anyone looking for bags, gloves, litter pickers and high-viz vests and of course skips to collect the rubbish. With everyone working together we not only heighten awareness of the problem but we encourage everyone to take responsibility for their litter,” he said.

Council cathaoirleach Cllr John Campbell backed the initiative saying it was remarkable what an area could achieve when they pulled together and worked for the greater good.

This clean up campaign, which is done in conjunction with the Buncrana Tidy Towns Committee, is part of the National Spring Clean Up Campaign which is being held in all areas of the county and country.
